The Joy of Cookies, Cookie Tour 2016
Event on 2016-12-01 10:00:00
Lawrenceville has proven that a pinch of this and a little of that adds up to a tasteful and successful event year after year. The Joy of Cookies, Cookie Tour 2016, is a culmination of retail’s finest and the quintessential holiday treat; the cookie.
Kicking off Thursday December 1st through Sunday the 4th, this sweet event has become a Lawrenceville institution and holiday tradition. Thursday night kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony and caroling, while Saturday includes a visit from Santa at the Cookie Mall.
A record attendance is expected this year for the tour that will span from the 5500 block of Butler Street to parts of Penn Avenue and 34th Street. Forty different businesses will offer free sample size cookies and will keep their own hours, but generally stores are open between 10am and 6pm each day of the tour (Sunday from 10am to 5pm). Several Take-A-Break stops will also be open for lunch, or perhaps a cup of coffee or cookie flavored beer. Visitors can vote for their favorite cookie by tagging their pick on social media using #cookietour2016. The cookie stop with the most votes wins a cookie cup—a miniature silver replica of the Stanley Cup with a cookie twist made by Paul Michael Designs.
Thanks to the Foundry on 41st and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh UPMC, on Dec. 3, a two wheelchair accessible trolley will transport guests across the mile and a half tour. Another added treat, made possible thanks to Edward Marc Chocolatier, is the dark chocolate sea salt and milk chocolate caramel Snapper samples that will be available at different ends of the cookie crawl, during the Santa Claus visit, and while supplies last on the trolley rides.
Look for the coveted cookie crawl map in the City Paper on Nov. 30, which will also be available through Visit Pittsburgh, select downtown hotels and universities, and retail locations on the Northside.
